Making Holiday Hunger a Thing of the Past
19th December 2022
Thanks to the continuing generosity and support of our donors, Dorchester Family Support were able to buy enough food to supply 250 local families with almost 300 Christmas hampers this year! Working together with Natalie, the wonderful Community Champion at Tesco's, we ordered and paid for a total of almost 7000 items that took four vans to deliver it all up to Dorchester Baptist Church on the Friday morning. Our hard working team of volunteers sorted and packed the items into the Christmas hamper bags ready for collection on the Saturday. It was lovely to be able to welcome families into the church to collect their hampers along with some additional extras that had also been kindly donated by local businesses and individuals.
It was very apparent that there was an increased need this year and in the last two days since the distribution of the hampers we have been contacted by families who did not register for a hamper or have only just become aware of the help that DFS can offer. We have been able to help some of these families and have also provided advice to others in relation to alternative food provision locally as well as Dorchester's Foodbank which operates from Dorchester Baptist Church three times a week.
We have seen our numbers grow year on year as more and more local families find themselves needing to take advantage of the help on offer. We anticipate that this need will continue to grow as the current economic climate continues to prove challenging for so many. We could not provide food for these families without the donations we receive. If you feel that you can donate and help to provide local families with food hampers during the summer school holidays and next Christmas, please head to our donate page and give what you can.
