Making Holiday Hunger a Thing of the Past
27th December 2023
Following the unwavering generosity and support of our donors, Dorchester Family Support were able to purchase enough food to fill over 310 Christmas hampers for collection by local families in need this year!
The wonderful and hardworking Community Champions from both Tesco’s (Natalie) and Morrisons (Chrissy) ordered and supplied most of the food we bought, and after some unexpected storage issues, Dorchester Baptist Church kindly opened their doors and made space for us to store these huge quantities of food ahead of our distribution day.
Alongside this we put out an appeal for donations of 600 sturdy Christmas themed bags that we could use to put the food in. This appeal was incredibly well supported by local churches and the wider community, and within just a matter of a few weeks we reached our target.
Other local businesses and individuals also came forward, generously donating brand new toys, stationary, pens, games, and books for families to take home as gifts for their children at Christmas.
Fast forward to Saturday 16th December and our hard-working team of volunteers arrived bright and early to sort and pack the items into the Christmas hamper bags ready for collection that afternoon.
At midday, we were ready to welcome families into the church to collect their hampers along with all the additional extras that had been kindly donated. As in previous years we were also able to signpost families to other agencies for support, help and advice where appropriate.
There are so many people we need to thank. Your collective generosity in contributing to our charity has made a significant impact, and we are truly touched by your support. Whilst it’s impossible to individually acknowledge everyone, please know that your kindness has not gone unnoticed. Together, we can make a difference, and we thank you all.
We have seen our numbers grow year on year as more and more local families find themselves needing to take advantage of the help on offer. We could not provide food for these families without the donations we receive. If you feel that you can donate and help to provide local families with food hampers during the summer school holidays and next Christmas, please head to our donate page and give what you can.
