Making Holiday Hunger a Thing of the Past
7th August 2024
It's week 3 of 5 of our summer hamper programme and we've had another very successful and busy morning at Thomas Hardye School. Thanks to the money raised through local fundraising and various grants, we've been able to buy enough food to supply hampers for around 250 local families in need for 5 weeks this summer. It was an early 6.45am start for everyone, including the Thomas Hardye School site managers to whom we are always so grateful, and our lovely volunteers of course, who came in to unload and sort out all the food ready for collection by the families tomorrow. It kicked off with the arrival of Tesco's who are delivering the bulk of our food this summer. We're grateful to Natalie the Community Champion who organises the Tesco's side of this, as well as Chloe, Dave, Ian and Debbie, the hard working and cheerful team who turn out each week to deliver the food we buy from them. This was followed by our meat and cheese delivery, which this year has been supplied for the first time by Little Angus Family Butchers based in Grimstone. A big thank you to Andrew Clark and his team for working with us and their hard work in making this happen. Everything has run very smoothly and we're super happy with what's been supplied. Shortly after that, we welcomed Roberts Food Service who had stepped in last week at short notice to make sure our families received apples, pears and grapes in their hampers after we had encountered unexpected supply issues. Having proved such a success last week, we've asked them to supply more fruit and veg to us for the remainder of our summer programme! Thank you everyone ... we couldn't do this without you!"
