27th August 2025

The summer is sadly coming to an end and it’s time to update all our wonderful supporters with what has been happening over the last 5 weeks of our summer holiday food programme.  We started in the first week of the school holidays and each Wednesday a team of very hard working volunteers took delivery of a huge amount of food that needed to be safely stored in the canteen at The Thomas Hardye School, ready for distribution the next day.

Local business Roberts Foodservice supplied our fresh vegetables, fruit and eggs, whilst our meat and cheese came from Little Angus Butchers based in Grimstone. Having worked with both businesses for a couple of years now, we know to expect fantastic quality each and every time. This year is the first time we've used Booker Catering in Weymouth to supply us with 'everything else' we need! We were super impressed with the hard work and dedication shown by everyone there who has worked tirelessly to make this happen for us. Sourcing, counting and delivering well over 3000 items to us on the Wednesday morning is quite an ask, but Bookers pulled it off and everything was delivered with a smile.

Every Thursday another team of volunteers (some the same!) welcomed 230 families through the door to choose their delicious food. You'll find pictures of the food in our photo gallery titled Summer 2025.

Thank you from the Trustees

Thank you so much to all our supporters, we cannot offer this service without you.  Each family receives at least £25 worth of food every week (double for a large family) and our costs this summer were £35,000. Thank you for trusting us with your donations, it means so much to us and to the local families that we support.

Feedback from Families

Every year we ask our families to complete a questionnaire giving feedback on the service and the food we offer.  These are just some of many lovely comments we received:

“Amazing service that completely supports our family of 8 for the holidays. Thank you so much!”

“This is an absolute God send for us, so thank you very much for this service”

“We are so grateful for your support and your work.Your staff so friendly, helpful and kind. Thank you from Ukrainian family”

Christmas 2025

We have already started making plans for Christmas; we will be providing a hamper of treats and some fresh produce for each of our families.  We will again be asking for donations of Christmas themed “bags for life” which can be dropped at The Dorford Centre from November.  Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to keep up to date with all the latest info as we head towards Christmas.
